Karnataka Election Results 2023: A look at the MLAs who won with huge margins

The Congress won a landslide victory in the recently concluded Karnataka Assembly elections, with several candidates winning by margins of 50,000 votes or more. And while some of the new members of the 224-seat assembly won by a handful of votes, others left their rivals gasping for dust. Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar incidentally tops the list with a margin of 1,22,392 votes – a winning streak since 1989.

Here are some candidates who won elections with a margin of 50,000 votes or more:

  • Chamrajpet – Congress candidate BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan defeated former Bengaluru police commissioner and BJP candidate Bhaskar Rao by a margin of 53,953 votes.
  • Athani , Congress candidate Laxman Sangappa Savadi won from Belagavi district in Mumbai-Bangalore region by a margin of 76,122 votes. His nearest rival was Mahesh Kumathalli of the BJP.
  • Belgaum Rural – Congress leader Lakshmi Hebbalkar defeated BJP candidate Nagesh Manolkar by a margin of over 56,016 votes.
  • Chamrajpet , INC candidate BZ Zameer Ahmad Khan defeated BJP’s Bhaskar Rao by a margin of 53,953 votes.
  • Chikkodi-Sadalga – INC party’s Ganesh Hukkeri won the Chikkodi-Sadalga assembly seat with a margin of 78,509 votes.
  • Chitradurga – Congress candidate KC Veerendra Pappi defeated his nearest rival GH Thippa Reddy of BJP by a margin of 53,300 votes.
  • Kolar Gold Fields – Rupa Kala M of INC defeated BJP’s Ashwini Sampangi by 50,467 votes.
  • Kollegal – AR Krishnamurthy of INC defeated N Mahesh of BJP by 59,519 votes.
  • Kudaligi – Congress candidate Srinivas NT won by a margin of 54,350 votes. His nearest rival was Lokesh Nayak of the BJP.
  • Pulakeshinagar – Congress leader AC Srinivas defeated BSP candidate Akanda Srinivas Murthy R by 62,133 votes.
  • Sarvagya Nagar – Kelachandra Joseph George of INC defeated Padmanabha Reddy of BJP by 55,768 votes.
  • Yamkanmardi – Congress candidate Satish Jarkiholi defeated BJP’s Basavaraj Hundri by 57,211 votes.
  • Basavanagudi – BJP candidate Ravi Subramanya LA defeated UB Venkatesh of INC by 54,978 votes.
  • Khanapur – Vithal Somanna Halgekar of BJP defeated his rival Dr. Anjali Hemant Nimbalkar of INC by a margin of 54629 votes.
  • Mahalaxmi Layout – BJP leader K Gopalaiah defeated his rival Keshavamurthy of Congress by a margin of 51,165 votes.
  • Padmanabh Nagar – R Ashok of BJP defeated V Raghunath Naidu of INC by 55,175 votes.
