Mangaluru: Uday ChowtaFormer member of national kabaddi team and first kabaddi player of Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka He died in the early hours of Saturday to receive the Eklavya Award. He was 43 years old.
He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
Uday, a resident of Badigudda near Mani in Bantwal taluk, was a member of the Indian kabaddi team between 2000 and 2008.
Uday had played more than 100 national and 300 state level Kabaddi tournaments in his sports career spanning over two decades.
According to sources close to Uday, he was active in sports including Kabaddi and Volleyball since his college days. He represented the Mangalore University team in the Inter-University Kabaddi tournament.
He represented Karnataka in the Junior National Kabaddi tournament in 1993. He also served as the organizing secretary of the Dakshina Kannada Amateur Kabaddi Association.
He completed his degree from St. Philomena’s College, Puttur.
