Mangaluru: hijab row grew in Karnataka with some on monday girl students Of Mangalore University approached the deputy commissioner Dakshina Kannada District seeking permission to wear islamic headscarf on campus.

After being asked to approach the Deputy Commissioner of the district, three students went to his office and submitted a memorandum.
Deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra KV said that the college authorities barred his entry after the university’s syndicate decided not to allow any clothing, whether hijab or saffron scarves, which could disturb the peace and recently Citing the High Court’s decision which held that hijab is not a necessary religious practice. And the dress code should be followed in the college where the uniform dress is prescribed.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Rajendra said that some students who were aggrieved by the order of the university syndicate had approached him.
“I told them that I cannot challenge the decision of the syndicate members at the district level and you have to follow the orders and rules of the syndicate. They have to look into the legal aspects as well. I have appealed to them also. Ensure peace in the college campus. to do,” he said.
University vice-chancellor P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya told a press conference at Mangaluru Press Club that the university will have to abide by the orders of the High Court and the state government.
He said, “We will follow the orders of the High Court and the state government. If any student faces any problem in its implementation, we will make sincere efforts to resolve the issue.”
The girl students argue that this order is for pre-university colleges and not degree colleges.
Regarding their representation, a student had said: “We had given a letter to the DC (to review the dress rule) and to resolve the matter silently. Didn’t happen because we wanted to resolve this issue legally but because of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) this issue got publicity.”
Citing a WhatsApp chat in a group of students, he claimed that students affiliated to ABVP called upon Hindus to come to the college on May 24 wearing orange shawls.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also referred to the High Court verdict on Saturday and said that everyone should follow the rule of wearing uniform.
The Karnataka High Court on March 15 dismissed a plea by some students of Government Girls Pre-University College in Udupi district seeking permission to wear hijab on the college premises.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi said that hijab is not a necessary religious practice and everyone should follow the same dress rule.
