Karnataka Rajya Sabha: 3 seats for BJP, 1 for Congress, none for Deve Gowda’s JDS

Nirmala Sitharaman wins Rajya Sabha election from Karnataka

Bangalore:

HD Deve Gowda’s Janata Dal (Secular), whose home base is Karnataka, did not win a single seat in the Rajya Sabha elections from the state today. BJP’s Nirmala Sitharaman, Jaggesh and Lahar Singh Siroya won three of the four seats, while Congress’s Jairam Ramesh won the lone seat. BJP national general secretary CT Ravi confirmed that his party won three seats, while one went to the Congress.

Ms. Sitharaman, Mr. Siroya and Mr. Ramesh got 46 votes, while Jaggesh got 44 votes.

“We were already easily winning two seats in Karnataka. But we got one more seat as a bonus. I want to thank everyone for this,” Ravi told reporters this evening.

“There are people in other parties who like and believe in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s work. He has helped us. I want to thank him too,” Ravi said.
