Karnataka weather update: IMD predicts heavy rain for next 2 days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in South Interior Karnataka on October 20 and 21. Karnataka has been in the grip of heavy rains for the past few days. Heavy rains last week also claimed 13 lives in the state.

“Very widespread/ widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over south interior Karnataka on October 20 and 21,” the weather forecasting agency said on Twitter.

On 13 October, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also ordered officials to visit the flood-affected areas and carry out relief work on a priority basis. He also ordered strict action against any employee who was found to be negligent during the relief work.

In a video conference meeting with the Deputy Commissioners of the flood-affected districts, the Chief Minister of Karnataka took note of the situation and warned not to leave any gap in the relief system.

Significantly, the state has been in the grip of incessant rains since October 1. From houses to crops, the rains have caused huge property damage and claimed many lives in Karnataka.

Along with the destruction of 3,309 houses, the death of 28 animals has been reported. Over 1,330 people have been forced to take shelter in relief camps flood affected areas of karnataka, The state government has opened 5 relief camps across Karnataka.

According to official data, monsoon has damaged crops in 9,90,957 hectares and 8.83 lakh farmers in 6,16,138 hectares have been compensated. 947.8 crores.

Officials aim to distribute around 250 crore compensation among two affected lakh farmers. In addition, over 48,485 houses were damaged due to heavy rains last month. Of these, the government has distributed compensation to 42,661 houses.

In order to avoid further damage and casualties due to flash floods, the CM has also directed the officials to take preventive measures at the district level. The officials were asked to prepare an action plan to start the work by demanding funds to carry out the relief work on the damage caused to the infrastructure in the state.
