Karnataka will get new AIIMS, Center approves state’s request

In a welcome move, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has given the green signal to establish a consensus. India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Karnataka. The new 538-bed institution is to be built in three years and will cost Rs 489 crore. The new institute will come up at Kyalasanahalli near Henoor Main Road in Bengaluru.

The move comes after a meeting between Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar and Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Wednesday. Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar also took to Twitter and said, “I thank my Prime Minister Narendra Modi And Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya assured AIIMS for Karnataka. This will greatly benefit the state and further enhance the health and medical education of the state,” Sudhakar said.

It may be recalled here that Karnataka had earlier requested the central government to allow setting up of AIIMS in the state to augment the infrastructure of public health and medical education.

In other decisions, it was also announced that the DPRs for a new National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) Polytrauma Center and PG Institute have been submitted to the Standing Finance Committee (SFC).

Meanwhile, the minister also demanded the central government to set up a separate state-level university for nursing and allied health sciences, so as to ensure quality and professionalism, a PPP model for the administration of hospitals and one for doctors serving in the hospital. Have special courses and training. Management. Stating that the move would benefit more local students, the minister also suggested giving priority to domicile students in deemed universities. He further urged for providing assistance to the Government of India for setting up medical colleges in all the districts, irrespective of whether it has a private medical college or not.
