Kejriwal launches WhatsApp number for people to contribute towards salary of yoga teachers

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday released a WhatsApp number for people to contribute towards the salary of yoga teachers under the ‘Delhi Ki Yogshala’ programme.

During a press conference here, Kejriwal accused Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and the BJP of “ruining the lives” of Delhiites by trying to stop yoga classes and other functions implemented by the Aam Aadmi Party government in the capital.

Kejriwal said those willing to contribute need to send a message to 7277972779, confirming their willingness to contribute and also mentioning the number of teachers they wish to fund. Under the scheme, each yoga teacher is paid Rs 15,000 per month.

“Whoever wants to pay the salary can send a message to the number that they want to contribute for one or two teachers… Then we will give them the name of the teacher and ensure that they directly check that teacher. Hand over.” The Chief Minister said, adding up the contribution should be in multiples of Rs 15,000.

Accusing LG Saxena and the BJP of trying the government’s measures, Kejriwal said, “It was very painful when they stopped yoga classes. About 17,000 people were attending those classes. They said that they will not pay the salaries of yoga teachers. What stops people from doing yoga? This is a sin.” The government had on November 1 claimed that the LG had not approved the extension of ‘Delhi ki Yogashala’ after October 31, but said the government would ensure that yoga classes were not stopped.

Sources in the LG Secretariat, however, had said that Saxena’s office had not received any file seeking permission to extend the program beyond October 31.

During the press conference, Kejriwal recalled how he received messages from people saying that they were ready to provide monetary assistance for the classes.

Describing two crore people of Delhi as one family, the Chief Minister expressed hope that they would come forward to help the teachers.
