Kerala: A smooth road ahead for Evs in the state Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

Thiruvananthapuram: The promise of a battery swapping policy for electric vehicles could give impetus to Kerala’s clean energy initiatives in the transport sector. Kerala It was one of the first states in the country to come up with a draft vehicle on electric vehicles in 2018, and took the initiative to set up a network of EV charging states.
“Keeping in view the space constraints in urban areas for setting up large-scale charging stations, a battery swapping policy will be brought in and interoperability standards will be formulated. The private sector will be encouraged to develop sustainable and innovative business models for ‘Battery or Energy as a Service’. This will improve efficiency in the EV ecosystem,” the Union Finance Minister said in his budget speech.
If the technology part is addressed successfully, the battery swapping idea could give EV proliferation a big push. it can also help KSEB and other agencies working on EV charging station projects.
“One of the major impediments towards realizing the battery swapping idea is the absence of an effective and standardized technology for it. Once that issue is addressed, it will be beneficial to the public and agencies like KSEB,” Former Chairman and Managing Director of KSEB said N S Pillai,
The issue of huge gap in power demand during peak and off peak hours in Kerala can be addressed to a large extent if battery swapping becomes a reality.
