State General Education Minister V Shivankutty told reporters here that after returning from the yatra, the CM’s family members and other ministers went on the yatra at their own expense.

The ruling CPI(M) and Left government in Kerala has claimed that the family members of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet colleagues had traveled to Europe at their own expense and not that of the state. general minister of state education V Shivankutty told reporters here that after returning from the yatra, the CM’s family members and other ministers went on the yatra at their own expense.

He also said that there is nothing wrong in taking his wife or any other family member on a journey, unless it is at the cost of the state. His reaction came in the wake of mounting criticism from various quarters over Vijayan and other ministers extending their visit to Dubai, UAE before returning to India to take their family to Europe and return to India.

The Congress-led UDF had said that the CM and other ministers need to tell the public what their visit has benefited the state and how it will benefit the people. Opposing the criticism of the visit, the CPI(M) state secretariat in a statement alleged that the UDF opposition was spreading fake news of the visit among the public through some media.

It said the visit was necessary to hold discussions with foreign nations and to explore opportunities to attract investments to Kerala for the overall development of the state. Therefore, fake stories regarding seizures should be identified and dealt with.
