The remand report states that Shafi was the main conspirator in the case, who planned and executed the murder of two women, Rosalie, 49, and Padmam, 52, who were missing, to please the goddess for financial prosperity. Police said Shafi lured both the victims money for sex work at Singh’s house in Elanthur and later the trio tied them up, tortured and killed them.
As per reports, Laila kills Rosalie by beheading while Shafi stabs Padmam. The report states that after killing Rosalie, Singh cut off her breasts. The bodies were later cut into pieces and buried in pits that had been dug in the premises of Singh’s house before the murders.
In the investigation of the missing case registered by the Kadavantara police, the murder has been deeply exposed. The case pertains to Padmam, a lottery seller, who was residing in a one-room apartment in Elamkulam, reported missing by her son. Police investigation based on CCTV and phone records revealed that the woman was taken by a person from Kochi to Thiruvalla in a vehicle.
Police soon took all three into custody, revealing that the woman was allegedly killed as part of a ritualistic human sacrifice, in the belief that it would bring prosperity to the accused. His interrogation also shed light on another case missing from Kalady. Rosalie, a resident of Kalady near Angamaly, who went missing in June, was also allegedly murdered in a similar manner.
Kochi city police commissioner CH Nagaraju said Shafi was a psychopath and a pervert who committed murders for tragic pleasures. He befriended Singh and Laila through a Facebook profile named ‘Sridevi’ and later approached them as a sadhu named Rashid. Over the past four years, Shafi had influenced the couple to such an extent that they would obey whatever they asked for.
Shafi has 10 cases registered against him in the last decade including rape, theft and attempt to murder. A special team headed by DCP Kochi (Law and Order) Sasidharan will investigate the matter.

Kochi city police commissioner CH Nagaraju said that when he questioned the main accused Shafi, he did not find anything earlier.
“Scientific investigation led us to Pathanamthitta. Shafi is the main conspirator and a pervert, we came to know during the investigation. Earlier, Nagaraju said that the details of the killings were so gruesome that they cannot be described.

According to the police, the murder took place on June 6 and September 26.
The two women, who had earned their daily bread by selling lottery tickets on the streets here, were allegedly sacrificed by the accused to solve the couple’s financial issues and bring prosperity in their lives, the official said.
