Kozhikode:

A man who was injured in a bike accident died inside an ambulance in which he was taken to the Government Medical College after the van door did not open due to some fault.

Police sources identified the man as Koyamon (66) of nearby Ferok. The incident happened on Monday afternoon.

Sources said the door of the ambulance was blocked for nearly half an hour, leading to delay in taking the injured person to the hospital’s casualty ward.

Though the driver and attendant of the ambulance struggled to open the door for a while, they could not, leading to the death of the patient.

Sources said that with the passage of time, the people around broke the window panes and opened the door from inside the ambulance.

Koyamon was brought to Beach Hospital on Monday evening after being hit by a scooter.

Meanwhile, the Medical College police said that they are yet to “receive information” from the hospital regarding the incident.

Health Minister Veena George has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
