Shivankutty said 4,69,219 students have applied for admission, out of which 1,25,509 students got A+ in all subjects and this is three times more than last year.

“This year a total of 3,94,457 seats are available in the Higher Secondary sector alone. Apart from this, 33,000 seats are available in Vocational Higher Secondary and around 70,000 seats in Polytechnic/ITI,” the Education Minister said.

The opposition, however, said that nearly two lakh children are worried about getting admission due to insufficient number of plus one seats in the state.

Speaking to the media, Leader of the Opposition, VD Satheesan said that the total number of seats available in Kerala is very less as compared to the number of candidates.

“Today we have come to bring the issue of students who were trying to get admission for plus one seats in Kerala. The total number of seats available in Kerala is far less than the number of candidates. So thousands of students are not getting seats. And here 120,000 students got full A+ in all subjects. Those students are also not getting desired seats for desired schools in Kerala. State government is not ready to solve this issue. So around 2 lakh students And their parents are worried, they are trying to get seats but they are not getting seats in their taluks in their districts. So the situation is very serious and we raised this issue. But the government is ready to settle the matter. No,” said Satisan.

He further said that our demand is to increase the number of seats and batches. In many schools there is a difference between the number of candidates and the seats allotted.
