Kerala trans couple seeks relaxation in baby’s birth certificate norms

The transgender couple has refused to reveal the gender of the newborn.

Kozhikode (Kerala):

A transgender couple, who were recently blessed with a baby boy, have approached the hospital authorities, demanding that their new gender identity be recorded in the birth certificate and other documents of the newborn.

Although Jahad had fathered the child, the trans-man wanted his name to be registered as the child’s father and his trans female partner Jiya Pawal to be registered as its mother.

Pawal told PTI-language that a request has been made to the authorities of the Government Medical College Hospital for this.

“We gave a letter in this regard to the hospital authorities and they assured us that it would be looked into. As per the recent decisions of the Supreme Court and the Transgender Persons Act 2019, we have the right to change our gender,” she said. ,

Pavle also said that she has a transgender identity card issued by the central government and hence she hoped that there would be no legal hurdle in accepting her request.

When asked how the girl and her ‘father’ were, he said they were both absolutely fine and happy.

He said, “Jahaad and I are enjoying these happy days and being parents of our own. The joy of having a biological child is beyond words. This is our own child…nobody can lay any claim on our child.” Maybe…we’re pretty sure.” Excited Pavl said that the baby will not leave us for a day as we are its real parents.

The trans woman said that the hospital authorities are ensuring breast milk to the child at frequent intervals from their breast milk bank and helping her in every possible way.

A trans couple was blessed with a baby boy through Caesarean section on Wednesday, which is believed to be the first such case in the country.

He refused to reveal the gender of the newborn and said that he did not want to make it public yet.
