Kasaragod, Kerala:

In another suspected case of food poisoning, a 20-year-old woman has died in Kerala after allegedly consuming ‘kuzhimanthi’ – a biryani dish – from a local hotel.

Police said Anju Sriparvathy of Perumbala near Kasaragod had bought ‘kuzhimanthi’ online from a restaurant named Romania in Kasaragod on December 31 and was undergoing treatment since then.

Police told the Press Trust of India, “A case has been registered after a complaint was filed by her parents. The girl died on Saturday morning.” Further action will be taken on the basis of the forensic report.

The girl was undergoing treatment at a private hospital, from where she was taken to another hospital in Mangaluru, Karnataka, where she died.

Meanwhile, State Health Minister Veena George has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

“Directions have been issued to the Commissioner of Food Safety to file a report regarding the incident. The DMO is also looking into the incident and the treatment given to the girl,” Ms George told reporters in Pathanamthitta.

He said that the license of hotels accused of food poisoning would be canceled under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA).

Earlier this week, a nurse at the Kottayam Medical College died allegedly after consuming food from an eatery in Kozhikode.
