KFC launches plant-based fried chicken in the US for the first time

Meat substitutes and imitation meat have come to the fore in a big way in recent times. As individuals become more mindful of the food they eat, they are looking for ways to reduce their consumption of meat. This is not only because of health concerns, but also because of the environmental impact of the food we eat. Plant-based alternatives to regular meats are slowly and steadily making their way into the mainstream. Recently, an Israeli firm launched its first 3D-printed burger that was completely plant-based. And now, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has launched a range of plant-based fried chicken in the United States for the first time.

The special fried chicken will be sold at KFC outlets in the United States for a limited time starting January 10, 2022. parent company of KFCYum Brands Inc. has partnered with Beyond Meat Inc. for this unique and first of its kind venture. Fried chicken is the size of a nugget and is made from plant-based proteins. The new item on KFC’s menu will come in a six-piece pack priced at US$6.99.

It tastes exactly like the 11 specific herbs and spices used in the fast-food chain and even has the shredded texture of real meat.
