Kharge, Sonia, Rahul included in Congress’s 40 star campaigners for Gujarat polls

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi He is one of the 40 star campaigners announced by the party for the Gujarat Assembly elections.

Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the party’s Bharat Jodi Yatra, has so far not campaigned in the electoral states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

Congress-ruled Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh chief ministers Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel are also among the star campaigners for the December 1 and 5 elections in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat.

The Congress is trying to oust the BJP from power in the state and had put up a good fight in the 2017 assembly elections. The BJP has been in power in the state for more than 27 years.

Other star campaigners listed by the party include AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, CLP leader in Kerala Ramesh Chennithala, former chief ministers Digvijaya Singh, Kamal Nath, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Ashok Chavan.

Besides this, AICC general secretary Tariq Anwar, CLP leader in Karnataka assembly BK Hariprasad, senior party leaders Mohan Prakash, Shaktisinh Gohil and AICC in-charge of party affairs in Gujarat Raghu Sharma have also been listed by the Congress as its star campaigners.

Former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and local Gujarat Congress leaders Jagdish Thakor, Sukhram Rathwa, Bharatsinh Solanki, Arjun Mothvadia and Jignesh Mevani will also campaign for the party as star campaigners.

The star campaigners include Pawan Khera and Amarinder Singh Raja Waring, besides the party’s Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi and former student leader Kanhaiya Kumar.

The expenditure on campaigning by a star campaigner is not added to the election expenditure of the candidate, giving him more room to campaign. As per the election laws, these expenses are borne by their parties.
