Khelo India Women’s Hockey League 22 will start from August 16

play India The matches of Women’s Hockey League 22 (U-16) will start from Tuesday (August 16) at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. The league will see 16 teams divided into Pool A and Pool B for the top honours.

This will be the first leg of the league which will run till August 23 and in the event of a draw, three points will be awarded to each winning team and one point for each team.

Pool B consists of Sports Authority of India ‘B’, Anantapur Hockey Academy, HAR Hockey Academy, Delhi Hockey, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, Odisha Navy Tata Hockey High Performance Centre, Salute Hockey Academy and Sports Authority of Gujarat Academy.

Talking about the importance of the league for the under-16 age group, Ranjan Ekka, Team Manager, Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar said, “It is a great initiative by the Government of India and SAI. It is important for budding players in this age group to get the right amount of exposure and a special league for under-16 girls will surely motivate the academies to develop more players at the grassroots level as well. Our team is reaching New Delhi on Monday afternoon, we are well prepared and looking forward to a good outing.”

Meanwhile, Akanksha, Team Manager, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy said, “It is a great platform for young players. Earlier, we would play with senior players because of their talent with a player under 16 years of age but they would not get that much attention but with a special league for this age group, I think standout players Will get recognition and maybe even call for national camps to prepare them from a young age. ,
