KM: Mayors ask KMC officials to increase bonfire in the city. Kanpur News – Times of India

Kanpur: Mayor Pramila Pandey directed the Chief Engineer on Sunday. Kanpur Municipal Corporation ,KMC) To increase the number of bonfires in the city in view of the severe cold.
He asked the chief engineer to ensure that dry wood for bonfires is made available at bonfire sites, and that they keep burning till late at night.
KMC officials have made arrangements for bonfires at prominent places in the city like shelter homes, key crossings, bus stands etc. “Currently there are about 177 bonfires in the city and they should be increased to 200,” the mayor said.
Speaking to TOI, the mayor said that the KMC, in collaboration with the police, had started a campaign to send the destitute and the poor to shelter homes.
“KMC has started a blanket distribution campaign for the poor persons at the zone level with the active cooperation of social organisations. I appeal to the social organizations to come forward in this noble cause”, the mayor said.
