Kodiyeri visits slain CPI(M) leader’s house

CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Sunday met the family members of slain CPI(M) leader PB Sandeep Kumar and announced that the party would look after their dependents.

Visiting Mr. Kumar’s residence in Peringara with Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian, Mr. Balakrishnan said the CPI(M) Pathanamthitta district committee would be tasked with ensuring jobs for the slain leader’s wife, while providing financial assistance to their children. During the visit, Mr Balakrishnan interacted with the slain leader’s wife and parents and assured them of all possible steps to ensure justice to the deceased.

Reiterating the killing as an act perpetrated by the RSS-BJP leadership, Mr Balakrishnan said since 2016 around 15 of its workers had been murdered by political rivals. “On the basis of a conspiracy hatched by the Sangh Parivar leadership, people from different places were mobilized. for the attack,” he alleged.

On the occasion, he also urged the RSS to refrain from violence against political rivals and warned that the peaceful stand adopted by the CPI(M) should not be misunderstood as its weakness.

Meanwhile, the police team probing the case is probing the veracity of the alleged phone conversation between one of the accused and his friend soon after the murder. As the phone conversations point to a possible conspiracy angle and an attempt to replace the original attacker group with a fake accused, the police will verify their call records and question more people in this regard.

The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Tiruvalla, is set to consider an application by the police seeking custody of the accused on Monday.
