Kolkata: Scottish Church College The University has waived off the fees of nine students, who have lost one or both parents to Covid-19, for all the upcoming semesters, becoming the first college in the city to take such a step.
The applications of all nine students were accepted and they will not have to pay any fee from the time of applying.
Students will get financial relief of almost anything between Rs 17,000 to Rs 38,000 per semester depending on the subjects they are studying. One student is pursuing post-graduation while the rest are in different semesters of UG course.
Principal Madhumanjari Mandal said, “Waiting the fees for the upcoming semester is a small step by the college to provide some financial relief to these students.”
Students of Jadavpur University, Presidency University and Calcutta University are demanding fee waiver. Many colleges have decided not to increase fees this year, but have not taken any decision on waiving semester fees. CU, however, has waived the fees of its UG and PG students.
