Kollam: Kollam police make 13 more arrests Sri Lanka National – two men from Mangalapuram and four women, a child and six men from Pallithotam – who were planning to immigrate illegally to countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand by sea – on Tuesday.
During the interrogation of 11 Sri Lankans arrested on Monday, the police got information about them. The arrested people were staying in a lodge in the city and they moved to Mangalapuram and Pallithottam as per the instructions of a person. Police are trying to trace the people who were helping to stay here. The police has intensified the search across the district to find more people in the gang.
According to the police, agents transporting people illegally accommodate 50 to 120 people in a boat. They make special columns inside the boat for their hide and they go to sea under the pretext of fishing, carrying nets and related equipment.
“The families arrested include families. Their plans to immigrate abroad for unknown reasons were not working in time. The agent had demanded Rs 2.5 lakh per person, but none of the arrested agents Didn’t meet or knew from personally. Only a few handed over the money as they had promised to pay just before boarding the boat,” the police said.
