Kovid 19 cases in India: Government warns of COVID, calls for strict monitoring as cases rise elsewhere India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In the wake of rising Covid-19 cases in several countries including China, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has called for a higher level of vigilance with aggressive genome sequencing and intensive surveillance, an official source told TOI. told.
The directions were given during a review meeting chaired by Mandaviya on Wednesday to assess the status of Kovid-19 in the country and the progress of vaccination. The decision to allow international flights from March 27 was also reviewed. The official said that no decision has been taken in this regard so far.

Sources said the meeting was attended by top health officials, including the health secretary, the pharma secretary and the principal scientific advisor to the government. NITI Aayog Member (Health) VK Paul, ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) chief Surjit Singh and other officials were also present.

India on Wednesday reported 2,876 new cases, while the number of active cases rose to 32,811. Though the cases are few, the government has cautioned against any kind of negligence.
