Moreno scored a goal and then scored another goal against Getafe before being substituted in the second half, suffering a right hamstring injury.

The 30-year-old will be tested on Sunday to ascertain the seriousness of the problem. Villarreal has 10 days to go before playing the first leg against Liverpool at Anfield.

Moreno has faced a rough year with injuries, having already faced problems in October and February, when he was out for just a month each time.

“We’ll see how serious it is, but it’s been a bad year for them. It’s been disappointing for everyone, let’s see how it is,” Villarreal coach Unai Emery said after the game.

After ousting Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final with a 1-1 draw in Munich on Tuesday, Villarreal claimed victory against a Getafe side trying to survive in Spain’s top flight.

Despite their Champions League valor, Emery’s team is still away from the European qualification places, with the win six points behind sixth-placed Real Sociedad.

Villarreal took the lead through Moreno in the seventh minute when Paco Alcácer got over a long ball from Manu Trigueros, which passed to send a deflected finish for Moreno.

Nine minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage after Moreno slipped this time into Trigueros, who guided a smart finish into the far corner.

Aenes Unal pulled one back for Getafe shortly after the hour mark and Unal wanted a late penalty after a clumsy challenge from Aisa Mandi. Villarreal, however, escaped leaving Getafe in 15th place, three to four points above the bottom.

Valencia had previously suffered their first loss in eight games at home to Osasuna, whose 2–1 win at Mestalla saw them leapfrog their opponents to ninth place.
