Landfill cleaning, timely payment of salaries will be priority in MCD: Sisodia

Campaigning for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections is in full swing with both the Aam Aadmi Party (BJP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) making promises to attract maximum votes. Campaigning for AAP on Thursday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia promised that cleaning landfills and ensuring timely salaries to MCD employees would be among his top priorities if AAP is voted to power in the MCD.

Manish Sisodia on Wednesday accused the BJP of extorting money from traders in Krishna Nagar and claimed that the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal will help them to get rid of this “curse”.

According to news agency PTI, Sisodia said, “Water accumulates on the roads and causes many diseases, but all these have been completely ignored by the BJP. Duty not considered.” He also said that drains in most of the colonies are choked and overflowing.

Voting in MCD will be held on December 4 and the counting of votes will take place on December 7. The incumbent BJP will look to win another term in the civic body, while the AAP will look to consolidate its position in Delhi.

The city’s Excise Department also announced on Thursday that Delhi will observe dry day from Friday to Sunday and the sale of liquor will be banned till the civic body elections are over.

“The period from 17:30 hours of December 2, 2022 (Friday) till 17:30 hours of December 4, 2022 (Sunday) shall be observed as ‘Dry Days’ in addition to the above dry days,” notification Delhi Excise Department. Said for

“The 00:00 hours to 24:00 hours of December 7, 2022 (Wednesday) (the date of counting of votes) will also be observed as a dry day,” the notification said.
