Indian-origin Rishi Sunak has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. With best wishes for the new PM, a tweet by Larry the Downing Street Cat has gone viral. It has a picture of Mr. Sunak giving a speech on the podium, while the cat can be seen at a distance.

In the photo, Larry the Cat is sitting near a street light as Mr Sunak makes an address. “My old friend Faisal Islam made sure to get an angle featuring the real owner here,” wrote the Twitter handle of “Chief Mauser” of the Cabinet Office.

The Twitter handle is known for sharing cheeky posts on current political events in the UK. Larry the Cat’s latest post has garnered many amusing reactions from Twitter users.

One user wrote, “Love that the lady who took the photo on her phone is taking a photo of Larry, not Rishi.”

Another joked, “That policeman, Larry, is keeping a good eye on you.”

Larry the cat definitely gets a lot of love.

Another user wrote, “I love how people are taking pictures of you, dear Larry. You really are the main person in Downing Street.”

Many agreed that Larry is indeed the boss.

“It is very reassuring to see. Downing St. has the consistency of at least one resident,” quipped one person.

Rishi Sunak has created history as he has become the first person of Indian origin to hold the post. In addition, Mr Sunak is also the first PM to be appointed by the new monarch, King Charles III, after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last month. Sunak’s predecessor Liz Truss resigned on October 20.
