Laxman will be the next NCA chief, confirms BCCI official

Laxman’s appointment is understood to come into force ahead of the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in Kolkata on December 4.

Former India batsman VVS Laxman will be the next head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), a senior BCCI official confirmed on Sunday.

Laxman will replace his former batting colleague Rahul Dravid, who was recently appointed as head coach In the Indian team after Ravi Shastri’s tenure ended.

“VVS Laxman will be the new head of the NCA,” a senior BCCI official said. PTI on condition of anonymity.

Laxman has already resigned from his role as mentor of IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad and will not be part of any commentary panel or write columns for newspapers to avoid infringement of conflict of interest.

Laxman’s appointment is understood to come into force ahead of the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in Kolkata on December 4.

Laxman initially rejected the BCCI’s offer as he was reluctant to shift base from Hyderabad as he would have to stay in Bengaluru for at least 200 days for the NCA job.

The two legends of Indian cricket – Laxman and Dravid – will now work together as the BCCI seeks a smooth coordination between the India head coach and the NCA chief.

As part of his job, Laxman will also oversee the preparations for India’s Under-19 and ‘A’ teams, which are en route to the senior level.
