Leader Shrikant Tyagi released on bail from Noida jail

Shrikant Tyagi released Politician Shrikant Tyagi, who was arrested in August for assaulting a woman in Noida society, was released on bail on Thursday, a senior police officer said. Tyagi was lodged in Greater Noida’s Luksar Jail since August 9 and was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court two days ago.

“He was released today (Thursday) evening after all legal formalities,” Jail Superintendent Arun Pratap Singh told PTI. Dressed in a white kurta-pyjama and a black waist-coat, 34-year-old Tyagi came out of jail at around 6.30 pm. His family thanked the Tyagi community for their support during his ordeal.

Members of the community had organized panchayats to mobilize support for Tyagi and held protests outside the society after his arrest in August, demanding his release and repeal of the Gangster Act in the case.

His wife Anu Tyagi said, “We are very happy and have got sweets at home to welcome him. We will now celebrate Diwali with full enthusiasm.” Tyagi was granted bail by the Allahabad court on Monday. Justice Surendra Singh granted him bail in the Gangster Act case after his lawyer argued that he was “falsely implicated” in the case “due to police rivalry”.

“Having regard to the facts and circumstances of the case, the nature of the charges and the gravity of the offence, but without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case, this Court is of the opinion that the applicant is entitled to bail,” Justice Singh had noted. .

Tyagi, who flexed political ties and claimed affiliation with the ruling BJP, was caught on camera assaulting a woman, a resident of his Grand Omaxe Society in Noida’s Sector 93B, when she was challenged.

He was also heard abusing the woman who had objected to the plant being set up in the common area. In the wake of the controversy, the BJP had denied links with Tyagi, who remained at large for four days after being arrested and under the Gangster Act, among other charges.
