Legends League Cricket: Gujarat Giants is the team of Adani, India Capitals of GMR

New Delhi: GMR and Adani Groups, which bought two franchises in Legends League Cricket, have named their teams as India Capitals and Gujarat Giants, respectively. It follows the same theme that the companies have used in the Indian Premiere and other franchises in the UAE T20 league.

In the UAE International League T20, both have named their teams Dubai Capitals and Gulf Giants. GMR is also a co-owner of Delhi Capitals in IPL. Adani Sportsline is a company of the Adani Group and owns another team in the Pro Kabaddi League along with Gujarat Giants by the same name.

The Legends League announced their tie-up with both groups to acquire the franchise for an undisclosed amount.

This season will see a new format with four franchise teams, which, unlike the previous season, followed a country-wise three-team format. The teams then were India, Rest of Asia and Rest of the World.

There will be two more announcements of the team in the coming days. The LLC will start from Eden Gardens in Kolkata and will then start from Lucknow, New Delhi, Cuttack and Jodhpur. The play-offs and final are expected to be held in Dehradun.

League Founder and President Vivek Khushlani said, “It is a very proud moment for us that we have two prestigious groups that are our partners. As owners of multiple sports franchises, they will bring immense value to the league.”

Last season, the total cost of the league for the entire project was $7 million. This season, the league will spend around $15 million and wants to change the business model in such a way that all teams get a break this season as well.

Last season the league was broadcast on Sony on both digital and television. This year’s broadcast partner has yet to be announced.
