Leonardo DiCaprio set to star in and produce ‘Jim Jones’ movie

Jim Jones was the leader of the People’s Temple religious group, and was behind the mass suicide in his Jonestown settlement in November 1978, which killed more than 900 people.

Leonardo DiCaprio is in final talks to play religious cult leader Jim Jones in MGM’s upcoming feature film.

Written by “Venom” writer Scott Rosenberg, “Jim Jones” will also star DiCaprio as a producer.

According to time limit, along with Oscar winner Jennifer Davison, will support the project through their Appian Way company.

Jim Jones was the leader of the People’s Temple religious group founded in 1955 in Indianapolis. He was behind the mass suicide in his Jonestown settlement in November 1978, which killed more than 900 people, including 304 children.

Jones and his inner circle planned a massacre in a jungle commune in Guyana, instructing followers to drink cyanide-adulterated punch.

Rosenberg will also serve as executive producer on the project.

DiCaprio has previously produced Alejandro Iárritu’s “The Revenant”, Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “The Aviator” and “Shutter Island” under his banner Appian Way Productions.
