The backstory of high-profile criminal Sukesh Chandrasekhar (“Ground Zero” page, September 4) has surpassed detective novels in every sense. He was able to run freely, exercise infallible powers and wear many hats without fear of the law, a clear reflection of poor monitoring by multiple agencies. This is nothing but another example of the blatant ridicule of India’s criminal justice system which is already slipping away.

Their methods speak to the extent to which bribery plays its part in high places. Surprisingly, many instances of spoofing were ‘not detected’ or simply overlooked. Certainly, he is not the only one from his tribe. And this is not a good sign for the country.
