Light rain in Delhi, maximum temperature three degrees below normal

Delhi received light rain on Friday afternoon, while the Met Office reported a maximum temperature of 31.2 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal. India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Delhi recorded 20 mm of rain from 8.30 am on Thursday to 8.30 am on Friday, with the maximum temperature expected to be 31.2 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal. The IMD said the minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 25.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.

The Meteorological Department said that the relative humidity stood at 92 percent at 8.30 am. The Met Office had earlier said that the Monsoon Trough is likely to “continue to move gradually northwards” and has led to an increase in rain activity over North India from Wednesday.

Additionally, according to the IMD bulletin, “Light to moderate activity with thundershowers is very likely to continue at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan during the next three days.” The Met Office had earlier said that the Monsoon Trough is likely to “continue to move gradually northwards” and has led to an increase in rain activity over North India from Wednesday.

Meanwhile, rain on Thursday led to waterlogging in some low-lying areas of the national capital and traffic was affected in other areas including Anand Parvat, Rohtak Road, Zakhira, Kirari and Lajpat Nagar.

The traffic police also informed residents about possible blockages due to rain and waterlogging and advised commuters to plan their journey accordingly. Delhi Traffic Police said in a tweet, “Traffic is affected in both the carriageways from Anand Parvat to Zakhira on New Rohtak Road and due to waterlogging near Gali No.10, Anand Parvat. Please avoid the stretch.”
