Ligue 1: Marseille move to second place after beating Agee Auxerre 2-1

Olympique de Marseille scored twice in three minutes in the second half to beat AJ Auxerre 2-1 on Sunday and strengthen their grip on second place in Ligue 1.

Cengiz Under in the 74th minute and Alexis Sanchez in the 76th minute nullified Auxerre’s first-half lead.

Marseille are now on 70 points, four ahead of Lens who have a game in hand. They face each other next week. Paris Saint-Germain is in the top spot at 75.

The hosts started strongly and Sead Kolasinac came close to putting them in front in the 11th minute with a superb header but the ball went wide.

Vitinha, who had six shots on goal until the 22nd minute, went close on two occasions with Marseille and Auxerre boxed into his own half.

The visitors, however, surprised the home crowd when Birama Tore scored against the order of play in the 32nd minute with a volley.

Marseille made a late comeback and fired under into the top corner as they missed several more scoring chances and Sanchez finished his fightback with a shot from a tight angle.
