Germany has ordered a ban on Russian aircraft entering the country’s airspace, according to German Transport Minister Volker Wissing.
The ban is being worked out at this time, a spokesman for the ministry told CNN.
A Lufthansa spokesman said on Saturday that German airline Lufthansa would also immediately avoid Russian airspace because of the war in Ukraine. The airline said it would no longer operate services to Russian destinations.
All flights to and from Russia have been suspended for the next seven days from Saturday. The flights that are in Russian airspace will leave it within a short period of time.
“The safety of our passengers and crew is a top priority for us at any given time,” Lufthansa said in a statement sent to CNN.
