Liverpool are keen on signing Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski, who has been dubbed to have ‘better quality’ than Kevin De Bruyne.

Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski could move his base to Liverpool after manager Jurgen Klopp is interested in his services. A Calciomercato report last year claimed Liverpool were close to signing Zielisnski, but the deal did not go through. With Klopp looking to strengthen the midfield, Zielinski will be approached again to join the Reds in the coming summer transfer window, according to Polish outlet Mecziecki.

Zielinski currently has a release clause of $63m. But the high price tag will not deter Liverpool as Napoli may be willing to accept a release clause of $38m for the footballer entering the final year of his current contract.

Piotr Zielinski has improved a lot during his two-year stint at Napoli. Despite being a midfielder, Zielinski has found his presence on the scoresheet on numerous occasions. He had eight goals and five assists last season. In the current season, the 28-year-old has scored seven goals while providing ten assists as Napoli dominated the Italian league. Parthenopean are leading the Serie A table with 83 points and will be hoping to win their fourth title this season.

Zielinski has so far represented Poland in 80 games. About three years ago, Zbigniew Boniek, head of the Polish Football Association, compared Zielinski to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne in terms of talent and quality. Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Bonič was optimistic about Zielinski becoming “a top player” in the future.

“In my opinion, Zielinski already has better quality than Kevin De Bruyne. Obviously, they are different players, but they are all capable of making an impact on the team.”

According to a report in Liverpool.com, the Reds were keen to sign a younger Piotr Zielinski ahead of the 2016 season. Zielinski was playing for Udinese at the time and Liverpool made a bid of $12m to sign the youngster. Klopp spoke personally to Zielinski, who was interested in playing in English club football.

Napoli made a bid for the Polish midfielder at the same time and Udinese decided to sell the promising footballer to the Italian side. Since then, Liverpool have been eyeing Zielinski and the opportunity could come next summer.
