Liverpool’s experience of losing the final is consoling for Mohamed Salah, says Jurgen Kloppe

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool’s experience of recovering from a loss in the final to win major titles could provide solace for Mohamed Salah after Egypt’s final misery of the African Cup of Nations.

Egypt captain Salah lost to Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane, who scored Senegal’s victory in a shootout victory in the final on Sunday.

Salah was back in Liverpool 24 hours later, while Mane is yet to return as he celebrates in his homeland.

Liverpool lost three finals under Klopp in the League Cup, Europa League and Champions League before lifting the Champions League in 2019 and ending a 30-year wait to win the Premier League.

Reds boss Klopp admitted Salah was disappointed when he returned to Merseyside, but he hopes the deflationary spirit can provide inspiration in future finals.

“Losing the final is always hard – I can sing that song – but the way he dealt with the defeat was especially hard and he felt the same way,” Klopp said on Wednesday.

“We spoke frankly and we’ll see. He will certainly deal with it, and I hope today is already better, but tomorrow everyone could see that he still had the final on his mind.

“It’s really tough when you lose a final, for which we’re obviously the best example, but if you use it for the next big game or the next big tournament it’s at least helpful.” even if it was really strict.”

Salah is set to play against Leicester in the Premier League on Thursday as Liverpool aim to keep pressure on Manchester City at the top.

The Reds are still involved in four competitions, including the League Cup final against Chelsea later this month, as well as the last 16 matches in the FA Cup and Champions League.

But Klopp doesn’t believe that Salah needs any other motivation to succeed.

“Had a bigger determination than Mo already? I’m not sure it’s human,” Klopp said.

“Yeah, it all helps in the long run, but I don’t think there’s much room for more determination in Moe’s mind.”
