Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate Earns France Call-up, Replaces Injured Manchester United’s Rafael Varane

Manchester United’s Rafael Varane has suffered from a pain in his left thigh muscle and will miss France’s next three matches – Croatia (home and away) and Austria (away).

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has earned her first call-up to France’s senior squad, replacing Manchester United’s Rafael Varane in the Nations League squad.

The French Football Federation said in a statement on Saturday that 29-year-old Varane had developed pain in his left thigh.

The Manchester United star, who “tested” on Saturday, will miss France’s next three matches on June 6 (away) and 13 June (home) and against Austria on June 10 (away).

Konate will join the group as soon as possible and will be in Split on Sunday to train before the match against Croatia on 6 June.

France lost 1-2 to Denmark in the Nations League Group A1 match on Friday. World champions France won the National League in 2021 by defeating Spain in the final.
