Kings started their innings with a scintillating 91 runs in nine overs to chase in the form of their openers William Porterfield and Morne van Wyk. While Porterfield scored 60 runs in 43 balls, Van Wyk scored 31 runs in 18 balls.

Once the openers were back in the hut, Shane Watson and brothers Yusuf and Irfan Pathan helped the Kings race to their target. While Watson remained unbeaten on 48 off 24 balls, Yusuf (21 off 11 balls) and captain Irfan (22 off 13 balls) played a key role. Former Australia all-rounder Watson was in an explosive mood with two fours and five sixes.

Earlier, though Chris Gayle could not work his magic, Gujarat Giants posted a challenging total of 194/9 in 20 overs.

Opener Tillakaratne Dilshan played a useful innings of 36 runs in 26 balls to help the Giants.

The Giants did not have a good start as they ran out Caribbean superstar Gayle in the very second over of the innings. On Monday, the Giants got into further trouble after Parthiv Patel, who was captaining the team, was dismissed in the fourth over.

Dilshan and Yashpal then put on a crucial 45-run partnership to revive the team. But after Dilshan was dismissed, Thisara Perera went for a duck as the Giants looked edgy halfway through their innings.

But Yashpal and Irish power-hitter O’Brien join forces to lift the Giants out of trouble. Putting their big hits to good effect, the duo put on a 52-run partnership to promote the Giants.

The Giants also used the last five overs of their innings very well and conceded 51 runs from them. But this was clearly not enough to frighten the kings.

The final will be played between Capitals and Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday.
