Mumbai Congress president Bhai Jagtap on Friday said that the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra should be conducted through ballot boxes and not EVMs. In a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the Congress leader said that between 2016 and 2019, 19 lakh EVMs went missing and the Election Commission is yet to give a satisfactory reply on the matter.
“It is important to find out where are these missing machines as it is suspected that they are used for electoral malpractices. Therefore, ballot boxes should be used and not EVMs in the upcoming local body elections.
