Budget proposals will top the agenda of the government with the approval of Parliament and the presentation of the budget for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The first part of the budget session began on January 29 with President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the Central Hall of Parliament, followed by the presentation of the Economic Survey.

Congress MP Manish Tewari questioned the discussion

Mr Tiwari, MP from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab, questions why the budget for Jammu and Kashmir is being discussed in Parliament while similar discussions were not held for other Union Territories.

Opposition MPs have claimed that they have not been given enough time to read the budget documents to make a constructive contribution to the discussion.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said the government should focus on the well being of those in India who run the services used by tourists.

He also said that neither the Kerala State Government nor the Central Government helped the Contract Carriage Association running tourist buses in the state. He said that the body has been repeatedly asking to reduce their taxes but it was not reduced due to which they claimed that they were selling their tourist buses below the price.

In response, the Union Tourism Minister said that this matter is a state subject and said that the Center has extended its cooperation wherever possible.

The opposition questions the government on the figures of child labor

Many opposition MPs raised questions on the central government regarding the figures of child labor in the country. Congress’s Manickam Tagore said it was “unfortunate” that the government does not have any data about child labour. He also said that the government has not released funds for the National Child Labor Project (NCLP) specifically for the state of Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee said that “in India now one in 10 child is in child labor and it is increasing for the first time in 20 years. Nine million more children are at risk of being pushed into child labor by the end of 2022 as a result of the pandemic. The closure of 1.5 million schools in India due to the pandemic and lockdown has affected 247 million children enrolled in primary and secondary schools and put them at increased risk of going into child labour.
