MUhammad Yusuf Muran is a wood carving craftsman from Kashmir. Muran is unable to hear and speak. But that didn’t stop him from following his passion. Having been involved in this for more than 40 years, he has made a name for himself in this field.
He is one of the last wood carving craftsmen of Kashmir.
Muran specializes in creating what he calls lavish, luxury pieces. In the olden days, they used to get a place of pride in the palaces. They incorporate intricate motifs of everything from flowers and fruits to dragons. At present, the price of these pieces can be anywhere between 5 to 50 lakhs and above. It takes artisans several days or months to complete a piece.
