Former England Test captain Joe Root couldn’t believe his eyes when he fell victim to a James Anderson in-swinger in the County Championship match between Yorkshire and Lancashire at Headingley Stadium on Sunday, May 15.

The veteran England pacer pitched the ball at good length and leveled off and middle stumps through Root’s defense as Anderson drowned in celebration.

England pacer Stuart Broad lauded Anderson while replying “oh my reverse swing” to a video posted by County Championship on Twitter.

The 39-year-old Anderson took a total of three wickets during the match.

Anderson, along with Broad, was dropped from the West Indies squad for the Botham-Richards Trophy in March earlier this year. According to reports coming out of England at the time, the new English attack, led by Chris Woakes, was supposed to be the start of England cricket after the Ashes collapsed.

However, as it turned out, Joe Root decided to step down from the England Test captaincy and was handed over to all-rounder Ben Stokes under the new administration of former England captain Rob Key.

In his first press conference since taking the England job, Stokes said it would not be a wise decision to drop James Anderson and Stuart Broad from the team, and that he would be his first choice for England in the summer.

Under new head coach Brendon McCullum, England will take on New Zealand in a three-Test series starting June.
