The SUV and electric vehicle segments have become quite popular in the Indian market. The SUV segment is witnessing a boom in sales from auto manufacturers and new electric cars are being developed and introduced in the Indian market.

In this article, we have compiled a list of 5 popular upcoming SUVs and EVs in India on Diwali, let’s check them out:
1. Tata Tiago EV
Tata Motors recently announced that the company will be expanding its EV lineup with the new Tiago EV. When launched, the Tiago hatchback will be the most affordable electric hatchback in India and is likely to be priced under Rs 10 lakh.

The Tiago EV was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 and was expected to hit the Indian roads by 2020. However, the manufacturer did not launch it. Tata currently sells the Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV.
Talking about the Tiago EV, the car looks similar to its ICE counterpart, except for the grille, alloys and blue accents on the interior.
At present, the company has not given any information about the car. Mechanically, the Tiago EV is expected to be powered by the same powertrain as the Tigor EV but could undercut it in terms of pricing, opening up more options for potential customers.
The upcoming Tiago EV is expected to come with a 26 kWh battery and an electric motor that churns out 74 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque. The battery pack in the Tiago EV is expected to offer a range of up to 310 km on a single charge.
Tata recently launched the new Nexon EV Max in the Indian market for Rs 17.74 lakh for the XZ+ variant and goes up to Rs 19.24 lakh for the top-spec Nexon EV Max XZ+ Lux. The Nexon EV Max offers an ARAI-certified range of 437km, thanks to its massive 40.5kWh battery pack.
2. 2022 Hyundai Kona
Launched in July 2019, the Hyundai Kona Electric was the first electric vehicle in India from Hyundai. Globally, the Hyundai Kona Electric was updated in 2020 and the model is expected to hit our shores in 2022.

The Hyundai Kona is expected to be powered by 39.2kWh battery and 136hp motor for 304km range or 64kWh battery and 204hp motor for 483km range. The electric SUV is expected to be priced around Rs 24-26 lakh.
3. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the new Grand Vitara in India soon. The new Grand Vitara shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hider and is a direct rival to the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushak and Volkswagen Taigun among other similarly priced SUVs.

Based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform, the Grand Vitara will be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa dealership chain. Even though the Maruti Suzuki SUV has a lot in common with Toyota’s Urban Cruiser hider, the Grand Vitara’s design is unique. The “NEXwave” grille up front is given by split LED headlamps. At the rear, the SUV gets attractive looking LED taillights that run across the width of the tailgate.
Powering the new Grand Vitara SUV is Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology; As well as a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with strong-hybrid technology, borrowed from the Toyota Hyryder. While the former makes 103 PS power and 137 Nm and a claimed efficiency of 21.11 kmpl, the latter has a maximum power and torque output of 116 PS and 122 Nm respectively and best-in-class fuel efficiency of 27.97 claimed to have been claimed. km per liter
The 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology can be had either with a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 6-speed AT with paddle shifters. The 5MT variant also gets Suzuki’s ALLGRIP all-wheel drive configuration with Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock drive modes. On the other hand, the strong-hybrid (intelligent electric hybrid) variant can only be had with an e-CVT that powers the front wheels. Drive modes on offer include EV, Eco, Power and Normal, along with the robust-hybrid version.
The price of the Grand Vitara is yet to be announced, but we expect it to start from around Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
4. Mahindra XUV 300 Facelift
Mahindra & Mahindra recently released the teaser of the upcoming 2022 XUV300.
The teaser reveals the front fascia of the 2022 XUV300, confirming that the SUV will now be equipped with Mahindra’s new twin-peak logo like the XUV700, Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic.

Apart from this, the new XUV300 will also feature newly designed 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
The updated XUV300 facelift can be powered by a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 130 PS of maximum power and 230 Nm of peak torque.
Also on offer will be the same 1.5-litre diesel engine as before, which produces 115 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque.
Transmission options are expected to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT with both the engines.
When launched, the XUV 300 will continue to take on the likes of Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Toyota Urban Cruiser as well as the Renault Kiger.
5. 2022 MG Hector
MG Motor India recently launched the facelifted MG Gloster in the Indian market and now the company is ready to roll out the new and updated MG Hector.
The updated MG Hector will get a revised front end with a larger “Argyle-inspired” diamond-mesh grille with prominent chrome surrounds at the top of the grille.

On the interiors, the SUV will now feature a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system with embedded e-SIM. In addition, the SUV will get a revised dashboard design with new horizontal AC vents and a center console with a new flowing design with a new gear lever.
The updated MG Hector is also expected to get Level-2 ADAS technology which includes Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning.
No changes are expected mechanically, the SUV will be offered with two 143hp, 1.5-litre petrol engines – one with mild-hybrid technology – and a Fiat-derived 2.0-litre Multijet turbo diesel engine producing 170 bhp. produces power.
The price of 2022 MG Hector is likely to be around Rs 1.5 lakh-2 lakh more than the current model. When launched, the SUV continues to compete with the Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks.
