‘Looks like milk competition with petrol’: AAP’s Raghav Chadha sheds tears at ‘indifferent’ central government after price hike

In the third such hike this year, Amul on Saturday increased the prices of its milk variant by Rs 2 per liter in all markets except Gujarat. Soon after, AAP leader Raghav Chadha hit out at the Centre, calling it an “indifferent government”. Referring to his previous tweet where he had speculated that milk prices may rise again, he tweeted, “Told you so…

GCMMF, which sells milk under the Amul brand, has increased the prices of Amul Gold and buffalo milk by Rs 2 per liter in all markets except Gujarat. Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) managing director RS Sodhi told news agency PTI, “The prices of Amul Gold and buffalo milk have been hiked by Rs 2 per liter due to increase in fat prices.” except Gujarat.

The cooperative had last increased milk prices by Rs 2 per liter on August 17, citing increase in procurement cost of milk. GCMMF gives about 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to milk producers. Apart from Gujarat, GCMMF mainly sells milk in Delhi-NCR, West Bengal and Mumbai.

Criticizing the Centre, Chadha tweeted, “Today, Amul has increased milk prices by Rs 2 per litre. The average Indian household continues to pay for the mistakes of the indifferent government. ,

On 6 October, he predicted that milk prices would rise further due to the continued rise in fodder prices and the spread of lumpy skin disease among cattle. “With the lumpi virus spreading uncontrollably and fodder prices and shortages rising unabated for some time now, the government has done nothing to address these issues. Result: More trouble for farmers, more trouble for average Indian households,” he had tweeted.

Raghav Chadha informed that the proposal to set up 100 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) specifically for fodder was prepared in September 2020, yet no FPO has been registered yet.

Notably, the AAP, which is gearing up to fight the Gujarat Assembly elections in full force, appointed Chadha as co-incharge of party affairs in the state.
