“Looks Like UFO”: Video Of Pakistani Groom With Currency Garland Shocks The Internet

The video of Mala is being shared extensively on social media.

A video going viral on social media shows a groom in Pakistan with a huge garland made of currency notes. The garland is so big that the groom enlists the help of his friends who hold it together and display it from the wedding stage. At least six people, including the groom, are seen partially hiding behind the garland. The video has been posted on Twitter and other social media platforms by multiple users and has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times. According to the social media post, the video has been shot in Islamabad.

The caption of the video read, “POV: Dream Defeat (garland) for your wedding day.”

The video originally appeared on Instagram on October 6, where it was posted by wedding photographer Alia. Users who commented on the post criticized the extravagance, calling it a “show off”.

“I would love to have it in the envelope,” commented one user. “He looks like a UFO,” said another.

“It’s a show off. Ordinary weddings are the best,” commented a third user.

Weddings in India are also lavish and expensive. As part of the ceremony, grooms are garlanded made of currency notes, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has warned.

Years ago, India’s central bank said in a statement that banknotes should be respected as they symbolize sovereignty and people should not misuse them.

It said that using these notes to make garlands or shower them on personalities at social events shortens their lives.

RBI had also said that it is taking all measures to supply clean notes across the country and urged people to contribute their efforts to take forward the “Clean Note Policy” for the country.
