Ludhiana: Ludhiana (West) MLA Gurpreet Singh Gogi on Wednesday along with Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) CEO Isha Kalia, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr Shena Agarwal reiterated their commitment to make the ancient glory of Buddha Darya pollution free. Directed all concerned departments to complete the related works within the stipulated time frame.
Taking stock of the ground reality regarding this project, the MLA, CEO and Municipal Commissioner clearly told the officials that there is any delay in completing this Rs. 650 crore project would be highly unfair.
He said several works are underway including laying sewage pipelines along the Buddha River, two sewage treatment plants, intermediate pumping stations, two effluent treatment plants and upgrading the existing STPs to ensure that there is no untreated waste. Water was flowing in the river.
He said the objective of the project is to divert the direct flow of waste water into the Buddha River by diverting this water to nearby sewage treatment plants, thereby making the historic river pollution-free.
The MLA, CEO and MC Commissioner ordered immediate closure of existing water outlets, especially industrial ones, if any, to ensure flow of only treated water. He also added that till now Rs. 270.34 crore has been spent while directing the concerned authorities to complete the project within the stipulated time frame.
Meanwhile, he also visited the Bio-Gas Plant located at Haibowal Dairy Complex, where he asked the officials to operate the plant at full capacity by ensuring proper scientific disposal of dairy waste.
Later, MLA Gogi said that keeping in mind the time limit, it should be ensured that by March 31, 2023, the residents of the Buddha Nala can see clean water.
