Madhya Pradesh is considering changing the name of VC from ‘Vice Chancellor’ to ‘Vice Chancellor’: Education Minister

State Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav said on Monday that the Madhya Pradesh government is contemplating to change the Hindi name of the post of Vice Chancellor in state universities from ‘Vice Chancellor’ to ‘Kulguru’. During a video chat with reporters, Yadav said that a district collector was called ‘Jiladhish’ in Hindi, and the word sounded “like a king”.

“If we say ‘Vice-Chancellor’, it sounds more familiar than ‘Vice-Chancellor’,” he said. The minister said that his department has discussed the proposal to change the name of the post of Vice Chancellor to Hindi.

“The proposal to change the name (from vice-chancellor to vice-chancellor) will soon be tabled in the cabinet headed by the chief minister. If it is approved, the proposal will be implemented,” he said. According to the website of the Department of Higher Education, there are eight traditional universities in MP. In addition, 17 universities (including journalism, engineering and open courses) were established under a separate Act and by other departments.

Apart from this, as per the Madhya Pradesh Private Universities Regulatory Commission, 32 private universities are also being run in the state. The state also has two central universities. Yadav also informed that 131 courses, which are in accordance with the Centre’s New Education Policy (NEP), will be implemented by his department as part of a “multi-pronged approach to advance our higher education system under the new policy”. .

Earlier, on Sunday, MP’s Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang announced that MBBS students in the state would be invited to participate in the first-year foundation course on RSS founder KB Hedgewar, Bharatiya Jana Sangh leaders Deendayal Upadhyay, Swami Vivekananda and BR Ambedkar. will be taught as Social and medical ethics.

The move drew sharp reactions from the opposition Congress, which accused the BJP of trying to impose its agenda on the people. The BJP, however, justified the move, saying that all sections of the society should be aware of the patriots who are “ideals for the nation”.
