Maha Congress chief Patole accuses BJP of instigating riots ahead of UP elections

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole on Saturday accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to incite riots ahead of next year’s assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier in the day, fresh violence erupted in Amravati town in eastern Maharashtra when shops were pelted with stones during a bandh (bandh) allegedly organized by local BJP workers.

The bandh followed violence during rallies organized by Muslim organizations a day earlier to condemn the recent communal incidents in Tripura. Talking to reporters, Patole said, “An attempt is being made to incite riots in Maharashtra.

“The BJP wants to polarize the society ahead of the Uttar Pradesh elections. People should not fall prey to such gimmicks. The MVA government in Maharashtra is stable despite BJP’s attempts to destabilize it.” Patole claimed that the saffron party wants to divert people’s attention from issues like unemployment, price rise, weak economy, Chinese infiltration and farmers’ problems.
