Maha: NCP, BJP face to face over film ‘Har Har Mahadev’; Fadnavis warns of action after misbehaving with film watchers

The Marathi film ‘Har Har Mahadev’ has sparked a controversy among political parties in Maharashtra, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) backing it, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) opposing its screening in cinemas. In addition, several filmmakers were reportedly beaten up for choosing to watch the film. The Thane police had registered an FIR against senior NCP leader and former state minister Jitendra Awhad and at least 100 others for allegedly harassing the audience.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said that thrashing of film watchers for watching a historical Marathi film will not be tolerated and action will be taken against those involved in such incidents.

Apart from the BJP, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) also supported the historical Marathi film, and challenged Awhad to force the cancellation of the film in Thane. The film will be screened in Thane, and Ahwad was challenged by the MNS to stop the screening, and criticized the party’s protest against it. “Stopping the screening of the film by the NCP is condemnable. The party is trying to give caste color to the film.

In Pune city, the show was disrupted by members of a Maratha outfit, while in Thane, NCP leader and former minister Jitendra Awhad allegedly led activists to stop the night screening of the film at a multiplex.

Sambhaji Chhatrapati, a descendant of Shivaji Maharaj, also expressed displeasure over the Marathi film. “Many films are creating stir for hurting sentiments. Using the word cinematic liberty, the recently released ‘Har Har Mahadev’ showcases inaccuracies. he said on Monday.
