Maha RS Poll: Army Rejects Sambhaji; Raut said the main candidate of Kolhapur unit for the sixth seat

Shiv Sena’s Kolhapur district president Sanjay Pawar will be its second candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls, party’s chief spokesperson Sanjay Raut said on Tuesday, a clear jibe for Chhatrapati Sambhaji, who was seeking support for his candidature. The Shiv Sena will contest two Rajya Sabha seats and ensure victory in both, said Raut, which the party has given to the Upper House of Parliament for the fourth time in a row.

“Sanjay Pawar is a mavla (soldier) of Shiv Sena and (Shiv Sena chief) Uddhav Thackeray has decided to give him the candidature. But an official announcement will be made soon, Raut said. The six Rajya Sabha seats in the state will go to polls next month, in which the BJP will have enough numbers to elect its two candidates.

Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress have enough votes to win one each, while together they may even win the sixth seat, for which Shiv Sena has thrown its hat in the ring. Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP comprise the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi in the state.

However, Chhatrapati Sambhaji, a descendant of the great warrior king and a strong follower among the Maratha community, has announced that he will contest as an independent candidate. He had approached Shiv Sena last week and sought its support. The Shiv Sena assured him of support, provided he joins the party, an offer Chhatrapati Sambhaji declined.

Taking a dig at Chhatrapati Sambhaji, Raut said, “Kings are kings because of soldiers.” Stating that the chapter for the sixth RS seat is now over, Raut said, “We respect him (Chhatrapati Sambhaji), his family and the throne, so we asked him to join the Shiv Sena so that he can become sixth.” to contest election as a candidate. For election.
