Maharashtra announces penalty for violation of COVID norms. Check Latest Rules

Amid the new coronavirus variant omicron causing worldwide concern, the Maharashtra government on Saturday announced penalties for not following the COVID Appropriate Practices (CAB).

State Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte said that the government is working on this in collaboration with the Mumbai Municipal Body and the Union Health Ministry.

According to an official notification, all travelers coming from abroad will be handled as per the directions of the central government, while domestic travelers arriving in the state will be either fully vaccinated or RT-PCR test reports valid for 72 hours. will be negative.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had earlier said that travelers from South Africa, where cases of the new variant have been found, would be quarantined and their samples sent for genome sequencing.

Anyone not complying with CAB will be fined 500, said the new guidelines issued by the government. If such violation by any person takes place on the premises of any organization which is to implement CAB, he will be fined 10,000. If an organization fails to comply with the CAB itself, it will face a fine 50,000, and frequent violations of the rules will lead to closure of it for the duration of the pandemic.

The notification also said that violating the rules in private taxis or public transport vehicles will attract fines. 500, while the owner of the transport agency will be fined 10,000. Full vaccination will be mandatory to use any means of public transport.

State Government Universal Pass will be a valid proof of complete vaccination (after taking two doses). In public events, shows or events, whether ticketed or non-ticketed, full immunization shall be mandatory for the organizers as well as the participants/ spectators. Shops, malls and other places where a service is provided, employees as well as customers must be fully vaccinated.

For those under the age of 18 (and therefore not vaccinated), a government or school-issued photo ID will be required. Adults who could not take the vaccine for medical reasons should carry a medical certificate. Gathering will be allowed in enclosed spaces with 50 per cent capacity while in open spaces with 25 per cent capacity.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra recorded 889 new coronavirus positive cases and 17 related deaths on Saturday, taking the death toll to 66,33,612 and the death toll to 1,40,908, state health officials said. The state had added 852 cases and 34 deaths in the last 24 hours before Friday.

A health official said 738 people have been discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of cured cases to 64,80,799 in Maharashtra, 8,237 active cases in the state.
